Shade of Light

Myee Carlyle Collections - Shade of Light
Photographer | David Hauserman
Hair & Makeup | Ashlea Penfold
Stylist | Marisa Sidoti
Model | Olivia Donaldson | Vivien’s

It’s supposed to be winter in Byron Bay but we’ve lost our direct line to the weather Gods, Australia is right on the cusp of transitioning into winter and instead of huddling around the fire, we are still experiencing beach days and 27 degrees. All this is happening as the northern hemisphere embraces the arrival of summer and light. That’s why I love this new shoot by Myee Carlyle, which manages to conjure up a winter vibe with it’s gorgeous location without all the heaviness we normally expect from a winter clothing range.

This new range is truly trans-seasonal with it’s beautiful hand dyed silks, soft, light weight fabrics and casual elegant styling. The hint of cooler days to come lies in the cosy cardigans, beautifully finished leather mini skirt and of course colour palette. Heaven!

Adorne Yourself

I've never really been much of an accessorizer. I know that's an embarrassing admission given my long career in fashion retail but hey, since when did I pretend to be perfect? Because I fiddle around every morning until the very last minute before dashing out the door the accessories get forgotten. It's not that I don't think they are important, it's more that I am not great at spending hours getting ready in the morning. Gym, breakfast, shower, clothes, shoes, makeup, hair, phone, laptop, keys.....run!!

This month's resolution is to spend time choosing outfits complete with accessories each night before bed. The new Adorne jewellery range in store has me all inspired so there really should be no excuse. I'll let you know how I go. In the meantime, take a peek at the current range of accessories on offer at Meshh. ;)

Summer Garden

The sun was scorching last Friday so Jess packed up the car and ran away into the cool lushness of the sub-tropical hills behind Byron Bay with photographer Hannah Leser to make the most of it. Hannah's relatives own a beautiful old weatherboard house surrounded by rambling gardens providing the perfect backdrop for some of our soft feminine summer styles. All styles are available online at Meshh x

We Want Your Bra!

Most of us have been touched in some way by breast cancer, be it a loved one, a colleague or a friend.  The developments in cancer research and the improvement in awareness and early detection during the past decade has seen the number of deaths from this devastating disease decrease dramatically however too many women will not survive the fight of their life and will not live to see a cure found. Despite the significant advancements made, it is important that we stay focused on the ultimate goal.

With all this in mind we are very happy to announce that between now and September 2013 Meshh is supporting MY LIFE. MY STYLE.'s World Record attempt at the Longest Bra Chain. MY LIFE. MY STYLE. is hoping, with a little help from friends, to collect 200,000 bras and raise $200k for breast cancer research. The current world record of 170,000 bras is held by a group of New Zealand Girl Guides. So you see, 200,000 is a very achievable goal and besides, in the true spirit of trans Tasman rivalry, we can't let the Kiwi's have this one over us for too long.

How can you help you ask?

Well we have been registered as an official drop off point which means you can donate your old bras by dropping them in to Meshh at our Byron Bay store along with a $1 donation per bra. All funds raised will donated to the Cancer Council of Queensland.

After the Worlds Longest Bra Chain record attempt has been judged in October next year, all wearable bras will be donated to those less fortunate than us so please, take stock of your lingerie drawer. If it no longer fits, has lost it's stretch, has seen better days then we want your bra!!

Big love x

Where For Art Thou Spring

I can't tell you how much I am over winter.

Living in Byron Bay is supposed to mean temperatures that fit with our beach, surf, laid back lifestyle right? Well right now I want my money back as we head into the third month of winter, and the heater which has been cranked up every night for the past two months is causing me to live in constant fear of the carbon taxed, turbo boosted energy bill that is due to drop into the mailbox any day now.

Quite frankly my dears, all this cold is causing my positive affirmations to fluff off into little clouds of frosty air and peter out before they have a chance to take wing.

Spring, please come soon so we can again wear less, smile more and sleep under nothing but a sheet at night.

The Divine Miss R

I remember being a foot taller than everyone else as a teenager, attempting to shrink my 177cm frame down to something resembling that of my classmates. A futile exercise of course as my efforts only served to create round shoulders and poor posture which is not a look you are intentionally going for as a 15 year old who is desperately trying to blend into the crowd.

I could look at this woman all day long with her long limbs and beautiful curves. Australian plus size model Robyn Lawley is 183cm tall or 6 feet in the old scale and a standard Australian size 14 with  bust, waist, hip measurements of 99-78-104.  It strikes me as kind of ironic then that my measurements are exactly the same as Robyn's (I am 6cm  shorter) but most of my life I have been told in a dismissive way that I can wear anything because I am so tall and thin. Plus size indeed...go figure! This girl does not qualify as plus size in my mind but rather healthy size for her height. What do you think?

Favourite Things

Dance as though no one is watching.

Just two of my favourite things today.

One of the many joys of living in Byron Bay is that when people say they are coming to visit they really mean it. It's that kind of place.

Last week I had a visitor from my distant past come to stay with us. Throughout the course of the week we drank copious amounts of wine, laughed into the wee hours of every morning and discovered that the passage of time has little bearing on friendships that are formed in childhood. Sure, in the lost years between we found our partners, have had babies, interesting careers, traveled to the ends of the earth and generally flowed through the joys and tribulations of life but we are fundamentally still the same people we were all those years ago. Some things never change.

Both of these images are a reminder that life should be embraced with both arms and that it is important to always stay true to who you are. Love and light x

Rhythm of Her Soul

A couple of weeks ago we took possession of Myee Carlyle's new collection, 'Rhythm of Her Soul'. It is such a departure from the normally sombre and muted colours of winter that I hyperventilated a little at the prospect of having to create harmony in-store between my somewhat safe, beige, black and charcoal offerings and this bold, confident and supremely feminine jewel coloured rainbow. The solution was to give the collection pride of place and allow it to shine in it's own space and follow the rhthym of it's soul.

What's Not to Love

I am not known for my overly romantic streak, but I can't let Valentines Day slip by without sharing a just a little bit of love.
